Political discourse has a place in the video gaming industry -  now more than ever

Games have always been completely filled with political discourse. From the simplest simulator, going through the rts to the military shooter. They are all presentations of a political worldview.

In recent times we have seen the emergence of a few games that come out of the conservative worldview. A few games that do not use the archetype straight white western hero man. Of course, there is one or another exception in the past, with a woman in the lead, but usually over sexualized.

We are seeing conservatives and reactionaries having their hegemonic discourse and political propaganda in games finally challenged. And that makes it seem like politics is emerging in games. Lie. It was always there, it just doesn’t confront the player’s default world belief. Being a white soldier killing Arabs in CoD was not political. Ellie being gay in TLoU is. This hypocrisy is the result of conservatism that does not see its own ideology as ideology.
