Adam Scott says ‘it felt very ‘Party Down’ to be cancelled’

Party Down‘s 2023 reboot with a third season saw the catering gang back together, still aiming for Hollywood stardom.

Adam Scott joined Seth Meyers on Late Night on Wednesday to unpack Party Down‘s resurgence, in which he returns to his role as Henry “Are We Having Fun Yet?” Pollard. The show, written by John Enbom, Rob Thomas, Dan Etheridge, and Paul Rudd, saw abysmal audience numbers when it originally aired in 2009 — Nielsen rated the show 0.0 among 18- to 49-year-olds.(Opens in a new tab) Starz cancelled it the very next year after Season 2, but Party Down organically grew a burgeoning fan base years later.

“Nobody was watching this show when it was on but then they found it after the fact,” says Meyers.

“Yeah, like seven years later,” agrees Scott. “We got cancelled, rightly so, in 2010. Our series finale had 13,000 viewers. So we should have been cancelled as it turns out.”

“That’s a TV show anyone could watch that did less numbers than a Taylor Swift show,” says Meyers.

“One concert would dwarf our entire audience,” says Scott.

Scott speaks to how the show absolutely died — “It’s the late, great Party Down!” — but then reflects on the reboot getting the gang back together.

“It ended and we were so deeply bummed. But it also felt very Party Down to be cancelled. It kind of fit in with the ethos of the show…If we won in any way it just wouldn’t feel right.”

Party Down is now streaming on the Starz app. Here’s everything you need to know before you watch Party Down Season 3 and here’s Mashable’s review.
