“Operating income decreased significantly (by 28%) year-on-year to 96.1 billion yen due to higher game development costs and the recording of expenses for acquisitions including Bungie, on top of lower third-party software sales.”
So 3rd party is down, and Sony actually include the price of acquisitions against their revenue to calculate their profit because that’s what profit is. Revenue minus expenses.
Unlike Xbox gamers who swore to me that Xbox can turn a profit when Microsoft were to spend 70 billion dollars acquiring Activision claiming that the 70 billion dollars wasn’t included and separate.
What an amazing world it must be when revenue is pure profit. Never has it happened to me in all my years in business.
Plus one thing I nearly forgot to mention. Higher development costs. Sony is spending money on making games, not buying them. They are investing in themselves. And this is the result.
