It’s an exciting week at GameSpot, as we’ll be premiering a new slate of video shows to inform, delight, and entertain you, whether you’re interested in an in-depth look back the history of the Zelda franchise, want to find out how the Resident Evil franchise was saved, or are curious what a real-life swordmaster thinks of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.
The Fandom family is launching seven new shows in total–including five in May–that aim to explore the many aspects of video games and why we love them so much.
One of these shows is The Kurt Locker, which features GameSpot senior producer Kurt Indovina digging deep into the latest trends in video games. He will examine how video games impact wider culture through a series of video essays. The Kurt Locker debuts May 2, and new episodes will run weekly on Tuesdays through GameSpot’s YouTube channel.
On May 3, GameSpot will debut a new show called No HUD. This series, which airs on Wednesdays, will feature GameSpot hosts examining new ways to play video games to help them feel fresh and new each time.
A series you might already know, Experts React, also returns. On this show, experts in their field talk to GameSpot about guns, swords, tattoos, and lots more to look into how close video games come to reality. The show airs May 4, with new installments coming each Thursday.
GameSpot’s Spot On is a weekly news show airing Fridays, in which GameSpot managing editor Tamoor Hussain and senior producer Lucy James talk about the latest news in games. Given the highly dynamic and never-ending news cycle of the massive video game industry, this is sure to be a fun one. The show premieres May 5 and returns each Friday.
The fifth new GameSpot show is How It Saved. The series is hosted by GameSpot senior producer Dave Klein, and it documents how specific games have pulled franchises back from the brink, or in some cases, how they help game studios stay up and running. The first episode airs May 7 and is called “How Resident Evil 4 Saved Resident Evil.” New episodes run on Sundays.
And it’s not just GameSpot. Our sister companies at Fandom, Metacritic and Screen Junkies, are rolling out new shows, too.
Metacritic is launching a show called Metacritic Review Lab on the Fandom Entertainment YouTube channel. This show features in-house critics and data experts talking about the critical reaction to the latest entertainment releases, beginning with Fast X, The Little Mermaid, Spider-Man: Across the Spiderverse, and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. The show debuts in May and will have 2-3 episodes each month.
Screen Junkies, meanwhile, will debut a new show called Honest Trailers Presents. It will include new formats like celebrity biography, TV theme songs, and commercial advertising. The Honest Trailer Presents series debuts May 2, and new episodes arrive monthly on Tuesdays.
Looking further into 2023, GameSpot will launch a show called GameSpot Insider during Q3. This limited series shows an inside look at gaming studios across the world as part of a documentary-style program looking into their latest big new releases. Another show in the works is called Challenge Accepted, and it’s an out-of-the-box gaming challenge series where we try to get an entire team to rage quit or beat Mario with a Guitar Hero controller.
