Tesla increases prices of Model 3 and Model Y in the U.S.

Tesla cars are getting pricier again.

The company increased the prices of its cars in the U.S., as well as several other markets, such as Canada and China. The changes were fairly small, though.

In the U.S., a Tesla Model 3(opens in a new tab) now starts at $40,240 (up from $39,990), while the Model Y(opens in a new tab) starts at $47,240 (up from $46,990). The prices of other variants of Model 3 and Model Y have also been upped by $250.

The price hikes come after several fairly large price cuts, meaning that the Model 3 and Model Y are still cheaper than they were at the start of 2023. For example, the Tesla Model 3 cost $46,990 in January, which means that it currently sells at a $6,750 discount, even after this latest price hike.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk said on several occasions that Tesla doesn’t have a demand problem(opens in a new tab), though the recent price cuts certainly helped some customers make their minds about buying one. Perhaps this small price hike is a signal that Teslas are about to get more expensive again.

Both the Model 3 and Model Y qualify for a U.S. federal tax credit for eligible buyers, meaning they can shave up to $7,500 more off the price, depending on the model they choose.
