Superman Legacy: Rachel Brosnahan Says It Would Be “Extraordinary” To Play Lois Lane

Actress Rachel Brosnahan is reportedly on the shortlist to play Lois Lane in the upcoming Superman Legacy movie from writer-director James Gunn. No official casting announcements have been made, but Brosnahan is excited about the idea of playing the journalist.

“Take everything you read on the internet with a grain of salt. But it would be extraordinary,” Brosnahan said on The View. “I grew up watching Lois Lane. This incredibly talented journalist who is far from a damsel in distress. I would jump at the chance if it arose.”

Brosnahan is best known for her roles on House of Cards and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Others said to be in the running for Lois Lane in Superman Legacy include Emma Mackey (Sex Education), Phoebe Dynevor (Bridgerton), and Samara Weaving (Scream VI).

As for who could play Superman, David Corenswet (Pearl) is said to be a “top contender” for the role. Nicholas Hoult (The Great) is also believed to be in the running for Superman or Lex Luthor. Other actors who may be in the running for Superman include Jacob Elordi (Euphoria) and Andrew Richardson (A Call to Spy).

It’s still very early days, and a source told The Hollywood Reporter that the names that have surfaced so far for Superman Legacy might not amount to anything more than “a chatroom list.”

Gunn previously discussed at a high level what he’s looking for in an actor to play Superman. “The next Superman has to be someone who has all the humanity that Superman has but he’s also an alien,” Gunn said. “It’s gotta be somebody who has the kindness and the compassion that Superman has and be somebody who you want to give a hug.”

Casting announcements for Superman Legacy being made at San Diego Comic-Con in July would seem to be fitting, but that’s just conjecture.

Superman Legacy is a prequel film that will follow a young Clark Kent during his time as a Daily Planet reporter, according to a previous story from The Hollywood Reporter. The movie releases on July 11, 2025.
