I think he was talking about their ability to compete after 4 generations of ass whippings that made them consider another direction in gaming.

Microsoft surely tried by jumping out ahead before PS3 showed up. Early games like Fight Night, NBA 2K, Gears, etc blew gamers away compared to what we experienced with PS2, GameCube and OG Xbox. They got third parties jumping in, they got RPGs, they got shooters, they got what was once Sony third party exclusives, etc.

And then they chased the casuals with a camera, not being consistent in bringing any big games the last few years and it all blew up in their face when the casuals moved on to their cellphones. Then, DRM 2013 was like swallowing an ICBM nuclear warhead as Jack Trenton dropped the mic and the whole world laughed on how we share games from Shu and Don said get yourself a 360 if you don’t like always online and a camera in your face for advertising.

All that arrogance and RROD, and first to 10 million and Milo and what the bottom of a shoe looks like blew up in their face to the point they couldn’t even announce sales of anything. Just useless metrics and misleading numbers hiding the severe ass whooping PS4 delivered when it was the Microsoft biased Pacther that said Microsoft would be the clear winner in an even foot race. To the point that Microsoft had to call Daddy Warbucks to pull out that checkbook to ruin gaming by buying up the industry, paying congressmen off through campaign donations and threatening governments and countries just to get their way and stay relevant.

Yup. It was the beginning of the end. Traditional competition turned on its head because they are unwilling to make games themselves when they are worth almost 20 times more than the competition.
