‘Tears of the Kingdom’ duplication glitch removed by patch, but there’s a workaround

You had to know this was coming.

Just a couple of weeks after launch, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has taken over the internet. With so many people poking and prodding at the game, naturally, people discovered ways to infinitely duplicate valuable items like diamonds. And predictably, Nintendo has slammed the door shut on that with a patch that nixes those glitches, per IGN(opens in a new tab).

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is a delightful mix of boldness and familiarity

There’s a way around it, though.

Want to keep duplicating diamonds and other valuables in Tears of the Kingdom? Of course you do! Maybe you don’t care about messing with the in-game economy and you just want to build as many crazy contraptions as possible. Or maybe you just want to keep buying arrows at markup from Beedle. No judgment either way.

Simply do not download patch 1.12. Next time you boot up the game, you’ll be prompted to download the update; just don’t do it. No one is making you. Sure, this can become problematic later (especially if Nintendo releases DLC that you want to play), but for now, there’s no obligation to download anything. Disconnect your Switch from the internet if you have to. The world is your oyster.

Remember, though: Cheaters never win.
