Samsung Galaxy Watch 3, new TWS buds spotted on official Galaxy app

  • Samsung’s next smartwatch will most likely be called the Galaxy Watch 3.
  • The name was spotted in Samsung’s own Galaxy Wearable app.
  • Previously leaked bean-shaped Galaxy Buds were also spotted within the app.

Last year, Samsung launched the Galaxy Watch Active 2 in September. The smartwatch succeeded the Galaxy Watch Active, which in turn succeeded the original Galaxy Watch. So naturally, one would expect the next Samsung smartwatch to be called the Galaxy Watch 2 since the “Active” branding seemingly represented a separate, sportier range of smartwatches. However, it looks like Samsung is once again in a branding dilemma and could label its next smartwatch as the “Galaxy Watch 3.”

The name was first spotted by MySmartPrice on the NTBC certification website. NTBC is the regulatory body that certifies devices launching in Thailand. While this listing itself is perhaps proof enough of the new name, folks over at XDA-Developers were also able to confirm it through Samsung’s own app.

XDA spotted an image asset in the Galaxy Wearable app specifically mentioning the Galaxy Watch 3. The asset comes directly from Samsung, so the new name is all but confirmed.

The best smartwatches you can buy (March 2020)

Smartwatches are still a very new thing to a lot of people. You don’t absolutely need one to get through the day, and some of the best smartwatches are much too expensive for many folks …

The company is probably skipping the Galaxy Watch 2 moniker in order to avoid confusion with the Watch Active 2. This isn’t the first time Samsung has skipped model numbers and the Galaxy S20 series is the most recent example of that.

A recent FCC listing of the new Samsung Galaxy Watch suggests it could come in 41mm and 45mm size variants. It’s also rumored to get a rotating bezel. Besides this, not much else is known about its features and specs.

New bean-shaped Samsung Buds also incoming?

Meanwhile, XDA also spotted another new Samsung wearable within the Galaxy Wearable app. Remember the bean-shaped Samsung Buds that leaked back in April? XDA found an image asset that shows a single earbud resembling the design seen in the previous leak (see image above).

The string attached to the image of the new earbuds mentions “buds_live” in the file name. While Samsung has already filed trademark applications for the Galaxy BudsX, this new evidence suggests that the TWS buds could potentially be called the Galaxy Buds Live.

The launch of both the Galaxy Watch 3 and the new Galaxy Buds seems imminent because XDA notes that Samsung doesn’t add assets to its apps until just before launch. Besides this, we’ve already heard rumors of an August 5 online Unpacked event and these wearables are on the purported launch menu.
