Ford Motor Co.’s U.S. sales increased 9.9 percent in the second quarter, as F-Series pickup volume jumped to the highest level in nearly three years.

Sales increased 11 percent for the Ford brand while declining 15 percent for Lincoln. In June, the Ford brand achieved a 17 percent increase to mark its seventh consecutive monthly gain and sixth straight month as the nation’s top-selling brand. Lincoln snapped a three-month losing streak with a gain of 0.6 percent in June.

Ford sold 212,516 F-Series pickups in the second quarter, 34 percent more than a year ago and the most for any quarter since 2020. Ford attributed the increase to the launch of the redesigned Super Duty and improved inventory flow.

Nearly 4,500 of those trucks were the electric F-150 Lightning, 4.1 percent more than in the first quarter. The company’s overall EV sales rose 36 percent in June, with Mustang Mach-E volume more than doubling from a year ago.

Second-quarter sales rose by double digits for the Bronco Sport, Escape and Expedition but declined by double digits for the Bronco, Explorer and Ranger.

The Nautilus, with a 1.3 percent increase, became Lincoln’s top seller in the quarter, as Corsair sales dropped 21 percent.

Brands Q2: Ford, up 11%; Lincoln, down 15%

Notable nameplates: Ford Bronco Sport, up 13%; Escape, up 29%; Bronco, down 16%; Mustang Mach-E, down 21%; Explorer, down 23%; Expedition, up 52%; F-Series, up 34%; Ranger, down 22%; Maverick, up 7.8%; Transit, up 30%; Lincoln Corsair, down 21%; Navigator, up 20%

Quote: “Ford achieved both bestselling brand and truck for six consecutive months this year on the strength of F-Series, vans, our new Escape and F-150 Lightning,” said Andrew Frick, vice president of sales distribution and trucks. “Our EV sales continue to grow. Improved Mustang Mach-E inventory flow began to hit at the end of Q2 following the retooling of our plant earlier this year, which helped Mustang Mach-E sales climb 110 percent in June.”

Did you know? Ford’s F-Series, Ranger and Maverick combined for sales of 246,155 vehicles, up 27 percent from a year ago, narrowly surpassing General Motors’ second-quarter pickup sales of 242,550 vehicles.
