Does Disney Plus allow you to watch movies offline?

Best answer: Yes. Disney+ allows you to download movies and shows for offline viewing on the Android and iOS app. You can download videos on up to 10 devices per account, and videos will stay on your phone for as long as you’re a paying subscriber and the videos are available on Disney+.

Disney+ lets you watch whatever, whenever

For as much as we do online, there are plenty of things we want to be able to do offline. Whether the connection on your commute is spotty, you’re traveling, or want to be able to watch stuff on the go without hitting your data cap, offline viewing is a super helpful feature.

To that end, Disney+ allows you to download videos on up to 10 devices per account, and you can download any episode or movie available on the service. You can’t download “Extras” bonus content for offline viewing, which is a small bummer if you wanted to download the Sing-Along version of Beauty and the Beast, but you can download the regular film and turn on subtitles, at least.

Downloading videos on iPhones and iPads works the exact same as it does Android devices and Chromebooks. You can download as many videos as your device has internal storage space to support, and there are three quality levels that you can set your downloads to occur at.

Device and DRM limitations

While 10 devices should be more than enough for most folks, with up to seven profiles on an account, you could hit that cap if some family members are downloading videos on their phone and their tablet, so be careful if you’re sharing your account with the whole family.

Videos will stay downloaded for as long as they are available on Disney+, but they still have DRM on them and Disney+ requires that your device connects to the Disney+ servers at least once every 30 days. So if you’re preparing to take a lengthy international trip where you might not be able to regularly connect to the servers, make sure that you boot up your tablet or Chromebook and refresh your downloads before you leave the country. If you’ve already left the country and your downloads are blocked because it’s been 30 days since the Disney+ app connected to the server, then you’ll need to check out a VPN that works with Disney+ so that you can pretend you’re back in the states long enough to re-download your content.

Get your Disney fix even when you’re off the grid

Pretty much every Disney film, show and cartoon short you could imagine is on Disney+ — plus content from National Geographic, Marvel, Fox, and Star Wars — and when your travels take you away from Wi-Fi, you can still watch your favorite movies and shows by downloading them for offline playback.
