Donald Glover To Write Disney Plus Lando Series With His Brother Stephen

With critical darling Atlanta in his rear-view mirror, Donald Glover will next bring his writing talents to bear for Disney+, writing the Lando series he’ll be starring in, and he’s bringing his brother Stephen along for the ride, Variety reports.

When news of the series first hit, Dear White People creator Justin Simien was set to lead the project, but he is reportedly no longer attached to it. Instead, Donald Glover and his brother Stephen will be writing the series. In addition to his acting and music careers, Donald Glover has previously written on shows like 30 Rock and Atlanta, which he also created, as well as the upcoming Prime Video series Mr. & Mrs. Smith. Stephen Glover previously worked with his brother on Atlanta. The deal for the brothers to work on Lando was reportedly reached before the beginning of the writers’ strike.

“I would love to play Lando again,” Glover said in a video interview with GQ magazine earlier this year. “It’s a fun time, being him. It just has to be the right way to do it. Time is precious. The past couple of years, this pandemic s**t, it really had people experience time… people realize their time is valuable. It just has to be the right thing, and I think it could be. Lando is definitely somebody I like to hang out with.”

A series focused on Star Wars character Lando Calrissian has been grinding around the rumor mill since Solo: A Star Wars Story hit theaters in 2019. Glover plays a younger version of the character originated by Billy Dee Williams in 1980’s Empire Strikes Back as he meets Han Solo for the first time. A show was announced shortly after. Interestingly, Billy Dee Williams was 43 when The Empire Strikes Back hit theaters. Glover is 39 right now. Between the writers’ strike and how long shows like these take to get made, he may no longer technically be a younger version of the character.

There is currently no information about the production timeline for the Lando series.
