But Fisker missed its second-quarter target of producing 1,400 to 1,700 vehicles, reporting output of 1,022 due to supplier issues, the company said. The Ocean is assembled in Graz, Austria, by Magna Steyr, a unit of Magna International Inc.
Among the top-voted investor questions for the earnings call were several asking for more details on 2023 production and delivery forecasts given the supply chain issues.
One submitted question is: “How does management expect to come back from underproduction in Q2 to still meet 36,000 vehicles for the year?”
Others questions seek information about reports of buggy software on customer vehicles, whether Tesla is discussing opening up its Supercharger network to Fisker owners and possible joint projects with other EV makers.
Tesla has reached agreements with General Motors, Ford and others for Supercharger access next year.
On Thursday, a day before the scheduled earnings call, Fisker is scheduled to hold a “product vision day” to discuss future vehicles. They include the smaller PEAR, the Ronin sports sedan and a “super sporty pickup,” CEO Henrik Fisker said at a shareholders’ meeting in early June.
The Ocean models being delivered are launch editions starting at $68,999 before shipping, but the base version starts at $37,499. Fisker said shipping costs vary by location. The PEAR is designed to be more affordable.
Henrik Fisker also said in June that the automaker had 65,000 reservations for the Ocean and the company was focused on ramping production.
“As we now are starting delivering the Ocean, I’m sure there are going to be some bumps,” Fisker said.
The 2023 production goal for the Ocean is between 32,000 and 36,000 units, Fisker added, but delivery numbers will be lower since the vehicles have to be shipped to the U.S. from Austria, which takes weeks.
In the first quarter, Fisker Inc. reported a net loss of $120.6 million and said the company had cash and cash equivalents of $652.5 million as of March 31.
