Call of Duty’s big new Season 1 Reloaded update went live this week in Modern Warfare III and Warzone, but the release was a buggy mess. What went wrong? Raven Software has now given a behind-the-scenes update on the issues and apologized to fans.

In a social media post, Raven said the Season 1 Reloaded update released with “some” of the “preemptive setup” that the studio did not intend to release publicly.

“We unfortunately encountered a conflict between live player data and our servers. Our teams were made immediately aware of the issues and began investigating shortly after the update went live,” Raven said.

We wanted to address the issues that players encountered during the Season 1 Reloaded launch period.
We’ve been laying the groundwork for the return of some fan favorite features in upcoming seasons, which has required a degree of preemptive setup in our live environment.…

The developer went on to say that it “rallied studio teams” around the world to help fix the issues as quickly as possible. A patch was released overnight on launch day that addressed many of the issues and got the game in a much better state.

“We–as devs–love this game and apologize for the disruption that resulted from these events. Please know that we hold ourselves to a high standard and [the Season 1 Reloaded] issues did not align with that,” Raven explained.

The Season 1 Reloaded update brought with it a new multiplayer map, Rio, along with a superhero-themed mode inspired by the TV series The Boys called Supe’d Up. Additionally, the long-awaited Ranked mode is now available for players who have reached level 55.
