Fortnite is the only game where you can see Batman fight Lara Croft, as the idea of a metaverse has helped shape the identity of that battle royale over the years. Every month brings with it new skins based on popular franchises to buy, but which of these cosmetics are the most popular? Unsurprisingly, superheroes–and supervillains–dominate the Fortnite marketplace of third-party skins, as according to research conducted by the GameDiscoverCo Newsletter, Marvel and DC are very popular with the fanbase.

Using information from third-party data sites like Fortnite.gg and Fortnite-Replay.info, skin popularity and name data were analyzed to find the most popular out of the hundreds of cosmetics available in the game. Using a parameter based on the “percentage of players using that skin during the Fortnite patch closest to its release” and filtering out the skins you can redeem after buying a battle pass as they have a higher percentage usage than those you can only buy, the overall ranking was determined.

The top skin currently is Brazilian soccer star Neymar Junior. He’s the only real-life person on this list, as he’s followed by 19 characters from other video games, comic books, movies, and TV series. In that list, 14 of the skins are Marvel and DC characters like Storm, Spider-Man, Deadpool, and Superman. Then there are other popular characters like the Mandalorian, the Predator, Lara Croft, and Rick Sanchez in the mix. You can see the full list below to see where each character ranks.

Interestingly, the most popular third-party skins that you had to purchase with Fortnite V-Bucks is a completely different story. Travis Scott is the most popular skin here, and in total, there are nine real-life celebrities on this list. Representing pop culture is a diverse roster of characters, like Goku from Dragon Ball, Naruto from his self-titled manga and anime series, and Padme Amidala from Star Wars.
