Build 2024: You can use Microsoft’s Copilot AI chatbot to learn how to play ‘Minecraft’

This one goes in the “inventing solutions to problems that don’t exist” hall of fame.

At Microsoft Build 2024 on Tuesday, the Windows maker went hard on artificial intelligence via its Copilot AI assistant, as expected. One of the new Copilot features allows the AI to effectively record your screen, and if the demo video was to be believed, use a voice AI to talk you through whatever you’re doing.

The example given was a man booting up Minecraft on PC and having an out-loud conversation with Copilot as it taught him how to play the game. Microsoft also suggested other Xbox games like Microsoft Flight Simulator could get similar Copilot integrations, but didn’t show off any of this in a dedicated demo.

The AI taught him how to craft a sword and hide from enemies. To be clear, Minecraft is a video game that is played by small children. It’s true that the game doesn’t have an in-depth, in-game tutorial, but if you want to know how to craft a sword, you can either play the game for 10 minutes or just Google it. You absolutely do not need an AI model to record your screen for any of this.

But that’s the future we’re looking at, I guess. Hooray.
