iPhone 16 Pro Max is reportedly getting big upgrades to wide, ultra-wide cameras

Surprise! People who buy the most expensive iPhone 16 will get more features than everyone else.

The latest sign that this is the case comes from a leak on Weibo (spotted by MacRumors). According to the post, Apple is boosting an ultra-wide rear camera lens on the iPhone 16 Pro Max, going from a paltry 12MP on the 15 Pro Max to a beefy 48MP. This is accompanied by a new custom 48MP Sony IMX903 wide sensor on the Pro Max, so both the wide and ultra-wide lenses are getting boosted this year.

To be clear, these upgrades seem destined for the 16 Pro Max only, if this particular Weibo leak is to be believed. Previous leaks, according to MacRumors, suggested both 16 Pro phones will get a 48MP ultra-wide lens, so it’s possible people who buy the 16 Pro won’t be disappointed. Another recent rumor suggested the 16 Pro Max will get a battery upgrade that the 16 Pro won’t get, so there’s precedent for that sort of thing.

Regardless, ultra-wide shots on the iPhone 16 Pro Max should look great, so that should be fun to see.
