‘Apple Intelligence’ may be the name of your iPhone’s new suite of AI features

WWDC 2024 is looming — and we now have a pretty good idea of what to expect during event, thanks to a new report from Bloomberg‘s Apple insider Mark Gurman

Gurman published a handy list of what we can anticipate from the artificial intelligence portion of Apple’s upcoming software-focused keynote address. AI will reportedly take up roughly half of its runtime. More importantly, the general suite of AI features coming to iPhones, iPads, and Macs apparently has a name: Apple Intelligence.

Gurman also reported that Apple will partner with OpenAI for some kind of AI-powered chatbot. There wasn’t much info about that in the report, but Gurman did give us the lowdown on many of the upcoming AI features, including:

Mashable Light Speed

  • AI recap summaries of articles and web pages in the Safari browser, as well as summaries of text messages, emails, and meeting notes

  • Suggested replies to text messages and emails

  • A revamped Siri that can do things like delete individual emails or edit photos based on voice commands

  • AI-generated emoji

  • Automatic transcription of voice notes

Per Gurman, these features will require at least an iPhone 15 Pro (or newer) or an iPad or Mac with at least an M1 chip inside of it. These features will also be opt-in, initially labeled as a beta test — and will use a combination of cloud processing and on-device processing.

Some of these features will surely be a boon to everyday productivity, while others may not. Either way, Apple is chasing the likes of Google in this regard; AI-powered website summaries, voice transcription, and photo editing are already available on Pixel phones.
