In the comics, Wolverine kind of tolerates Deadpool while the latter would probably call Logan one of his best friends. On the big screen, their relationship is a bit frosty to say the least. Deadpool and Wolverine marks the first time that Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman’s respective characters have shared any significant scenes together since 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine. And in honor of Best Friends Day, a new trailer has been been released. But if there’s any friendship there, it’s one-sided.
Considering that Wolverine didn’t recognize Deadpool in the previous trailer, it’s possible that this incarnation of Logan never met Wade before this story. Regardless, Wolverine is increasingly annoyed with Deadpool in this trailer. The usual arc for buddy action comedies is for the two main characters to become friends. So far, there’s little chance of that happening.
Additionally, the trailer appears to be teasing the introduction of Lady Deadpool, an alternate world version of Deadpool himself. Since the last trailer introduced Dogpool, it was only a matter of time before more variants were introduced. Now, we have to wonder if a recognizable star will be playing Lady Deadpool, and if she’ll have more than just a cameo.
Deadpool and Wolverine will hit theaters on Friday, July 26. It’s also going to be accompanied by one of the most hilarious popcorn buckets that we’ve ever seen. Marvel clearly has a lot of confidence in this film, which may be why director Shawn Levy is reportedly the studio’s top choice to direct Avengers 5.
