Rumor: Sony May Be Working on Native PS3 Backwards Compatibility

I’ll believe it when I see it.

This rumor has been going on for almost a decade now, and nothing.

The hardware and specs are there for native emulation, it’s just up to Sony to see if there’s value there to do it, if they want to spend the engineering and budget doing it, and will fans actually use it.

One thing I have to give Xbox is the amount of effort they put into backwards compatibility and allowing games to run at better than native settings, even if it’s a limited version of the library. That’s one of the few things Sony can learn from them, and if the old code is still there for many of these games (at least the exclusives) it would behoove Sony to work on some PS5 / PS4 remasters / remakes of some of these games with PS4/PS5 level graphics.
