Street Fighter Reboot Movie Lands 2026 Release Date

Thirty years ago, Universal brought Capcom’s fighting game franchise, Street Fighter, to the big screen with Jean-Claude Van Damme, Ming-Na Wen, Kylie Minogue, and the late Raul Julia in the leading roles. 20th Century Fox rebooted the franchise in 2009 which Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li, which featured Kristin Kreuk in the title role. Now, Legendary and Sony Pictures have set a date for their take on Street Fighter.

GameSpot has learned that the upcoming Street Fighter reboot will be released on March 20, 2026. It’s a very confident move by the studios considering that Street Fighter lost its directors, Danny and Michael Philippou, just over a week ago. The Talk To Me helmers reportedly left the project over a disagreement with Sony and Legendary about how quickly the film should begin production. The studios want it sooner, while the Philippou brothers already had a horror film lined up. A new director or directors will have to be in place soon to make that date.

Capcom’s Street Fighter first made its debut in the arcades in 1987. That game introduced players to series mainstays Ryu and Ken. But it wasn’t until Street Fighter II in 1991 that the games became a global phenomenon. That title introduced fan-favorites Chun-Li, Guile, and more. Since then, Capcom has released numerous sequels, including the most recent game, Street Fighter 6.

In addition to the two previous live-action Street Fighter movies, the series has spawned animated films, an anime TV series, and an American cartoon. It’s currently unknown if Sony and Legendary’s Street Fighter movie will be based on the earlier games in the series or if it will take its cues from the more recent sequels.
