Black Myth: Wukong Isn’t On Xbox Yet Due To Sony Exclusivity Deal – Report

One of the most popular games at the moment, Black Myth: Wukong, is reportedly not on Xbox Series X|S due to a non-publicized exclusivity clause between Sony and developer GameScience.

According to IGN and Forbes, previous claims stating that the Xbox version was delayed because of a technical memory issue were inaccurate. Instead, the game is reportedly currently a console exclusive–at least for now–on PlayStation 5.

Neither Sony nor GameScience have said anything about possible exclusivity deals, but GameScience said the game is currently being optimized on Xbox. Microsoft also put out its own statement about Black Myth: Wukong.

“We’re excited for the launch of Black Myth Wukong on Xbox Series X|S and are working with Game Science to bring the game to our platforms,” Microsoft explained. “We can’t comment on the deals made by our partners with other platform holders, but we remain focused on making Xbox the best platform for gamers, and great games are at the center of that.”

In the past, issues with Series S have prompted delays to other games, like Baldur’s Gate 3, because of the need to launch both Series X and S versions simultaneously with feature parity. However, that’s apparently not what’s going on here with Black Myth: Wukong.

Black Myth: Wukong has become one of the fastest-selling games of all time, selling 10 million copies between its launch on August 20 through August 23. For comparison, it has outsold Elden Ring and Hogwarts Legacy in the same timeframe, as well as matches The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom’s three-day sales record, which was also at 10 million.

In GameSpot’s Black Myth: Wukong review, we said, “Black Myth: Wukong delights with a gauntlet of thrilling boss battles against a menagerie of Chinese mythology’s greatest creatures, but the moments in between are disappointing.”
