Shin Megami Tensei 3 Remaster Announced For Nintendo Switch (And PS4)

July 20, 2020

Nintendo shared the first trailer for the Switch-exclusive Shin Megami Tensei V during its surprise Nintendo Direct Mini, but that isn’t the only game in the series coming to the hybrid console. During the same stream, Nintendo also revealed that Shin Megami Tensei III Nocturne HD, a remaster of the cult PS2 classic, is also in development for Switch.

Nocturne HD is billed as a “full high-definition remake” of Shin Megami Tensei III, which originally released for PS2 17 years ago. While a version of that game featured Dante from Capcom’s Devil May Cry series as a guest character, it appears this remake is based on Nocturne Maniax Chronicle, which replaced him with Devil Summoner’s main character, Raidou. You can watch the first trailer for the game below.

Shin Megami Tensei III Nocture HD does not yet have a release date, but it’s slated to release in Spring 2021. The official SMT website also confirms the remaster is coming to PS4 as well.

Shin Megami Tensei V is likewise slated to launch on Switch in 2021. Few details about the game were revealed during the Nintendo Direct Mini, but the trailer says that “order itself has crumbled and chaos reigns over all” and ends with the tagline, “The time for Creation has come.”

That wasn’t the only major news to come out of the Nintendo Direct Mini. We also learned that Cadence of Hyrule, the Crypt of the NecroDancer/Zelda crossover, is getting three paid DLC packs this year. The first arrives today and introduces three new characters to the title, while the second and third will release by the end of October and add new music and a new, Majora’s Mask-inspired storyline. Nintendo is also releasing a Season Pass for the game that includes all three DLC packs and bonus costumes for Link and Zelda.
