I think it’s silly to assume that metacritic didn’t have the option to do this kind of restriction a long long time ago.
The fact that it comes after a specific game got review bombed shows what is really behind the new restriction.
I personally think that the main media reviewers should also be put under the same restriction. They don’t all get review codes so all should be allowed time to play the game before reviews come out at all.
Restrict user and critic reviews or add a verification process.
Since the only opinions getting restricted are the gamers/users then this is censorship.
It should restrict both equally. It would probably help the industry as a whole as well since it will push players to wait a little after release and allow reviewers to play with the latest patch.
