Situations like Wukong are rare, not exactly for lack of trying; they have franchises like Gujian and Xuan-Yuan Sword that are decades old but can’t move many units. Not to mention Japan as a whole, which, although it is home to some of the best single-player games in the world, is also a hub for tons of GaaS and a revenue leader in many of them.
