It’s not “becoming.” It was already a given. Even without knowing what’s on offer at launch or the price.
I’ve been playing games for over 40 years and watched consoles and companies come and go. But when the cards fell where they may, Sony stood as the company that deserves the support of gamers. Not because of blind fanboyism. But because they have worked hard in expanding and improving the console industry for everybody. And didn’t just sit on their money. While being mostly humble about it and not greedy.
Better formats for home consoles at cheaper prices. With the side effect of music and movies. Better image to TVs with HDMI. Dual Analog sticks. Swappable HDDs without void of warranty. Rumble. Motion control that was accurate enough to play core games. That still lives on with VR. Sony didn’t just sit back and count the money. They keep taking risks. Even if they knew VR wasn’t going to break Guinness World records because of price. But look who’s laughing now? PS Move will still be an option on PS5 as well as VR. And, still watch 3D movies with VR. All 3 are alive and well on PlayStation. The others are dead.
Sony always talked about a marathon before others did. Even through restructuring the company and selling assets, they didn’t sit on the money. They put out high quality game after high quality game on advanced game engines they knew would benefit them later. That lead to this generation’s total domination. But we can tell even at the end of PS4’s run, Sony still is putting out world-class games when they could have saved them for next gen. That gives next gen a run for the money on 1.84 teraflops.
PS5 deserves a purchase from everyone that believes in high quality content, variety and hardware…ALL THE TIME. Risk taking…ALL THE TIME. Not during the holidays. All the time. They’re not sitting on a trillion dollars. They are reinvesting their money and show why you can count on them to give back to gamers 10 fold.
PS5 is a no-brainer because you know what you’ll get from it. Others don’t like my saying it. But I really don’t care. It’s not a toy. And it’s not a live service.
