The top-selling games in the US for the month of October have been revealed by market research firm Circana–via executive director Mat Piscatella on Bluesky–and surprisingly, it’s packed with new releases. The #1 spot isn’t shocking; after all, Black Ops 6 had a record-setting debut, with Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella saying that the shooter’s release on October 25 set a new record for new Game Pass subscriber additions on launch day, while sales on PlayStation and Steam were up “over 60% year-over-year” compared to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III (2023).

Alongside the higher Game Pass subscriber influx, the presence of Black Ops 6 also shifted share of full game sales to PlayStation, Piscatella adds, while it didn’t appear to result in massive cannibalization of sales nor provide a significant boost to Xbox Series hardware. Speaking of which, PlayStation platforms accounted for 82% of Black Ops 6 total console full-game dollar sales volume during the October tracking period.

Looking at the remaining games in the top five, there were other successful debuts. Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero claimed the #2 spot, and ranked as the 45th best-selling game of 2024 year-to-date, according to Piscatella. A month after launch, it became the best-selling Dragon Ball game in US lifetime dollar sales, ranking third among all Bandai Namco published titles in history, surpassed by Elden Ring and Dark Souls III.

The #3 spot is another standout. Silent Hill 2‘s launch positioned it as the best-selling Silent Hill game in lifetime dollar sales, according to Circana’s report, surpassed only by the original Silent Hill 2. It also ranked #28 for the 2024 year-to-date period.

Elsewhere, Plaion’s Undisputed claimed the #4 spot, followed by Metaphor: ReFantazio at #5. Dragon Age: The Veilguard, Super Mario Party Jamboree, and Sonic X Shadow Generations all end up in the first ten, trumping the likes of EA Sports FC 25, the former #1 spot in September, and EA Sports College Football 25, previously on the #5 spot. It’s worth noting that College Football 25 is close to becoming the all-time best selling sports video game in US history. According to Piscatella, it might achieve this during November.

The other debut game, Life is Strange: Double Exposure, claimed the #18 spot instead. For a broader look at the game market, you can check out 2024’s best-selling games in the US so far.
