What color Faceplate should you get for your Ring Video Doorbell 3 & 3 Plus in 2020

Like the popular Ring Video Doorbell 2, the Ring Video Doorbell 3 and 3 Plus offer the ability to customize the look of your front door through swappable faceplates, covers, and skins. While you can’t share these between the second and third generations of this product, there are still plenty of options to chose from, in addition to the Satin Nickel and Venetian Bronze plates that come with the device. Here are some of our favorites.

Staff Pick

I’m a sucker for blue, but this one stands out to me because it doesn’t stand out. This faceplate oozes class without calling too much attention to itself. That’s just me, though; there are plenty of options if you like to be more expressive.

This cover has some of the same subtlety as our top pick with just a bit more pop. If you have blue trim on your windows or eaves, this might be a better match.

I like this Blueprint faceplate because it reminds me of the paint job on a 1960s-era Ford Thunderbird, or of the color of some of those iconic mid-century modern ranch homes that you sometimes see in Palm Springs.

If you do opt to replace the included Faceplate on your Ring Video Doorbell 3 or 3 Plus, chances are you’ll probably opt for something timeless and classic like this Galaxy Black variant. It has a matte finish that resists fingerprint smudges.

I didn’t put this option very high on my list because it looks very similar to the faceplate that comes with a new device, but that’s not to say it isn’t still lovely. If you need to replace the included faceplate and you want to keep that style, then you have this option available to you.

This cover will also give you a look that is close to that out-of-the-box impression but dials it up a notch or two. It pairs particularly well with lighter-painted homes and front doors.

If you have an older home with more traditional styling, then this might be a good option for you. Ring calls it Brush Gold, but to me, it looks more like a brass finish.

$15 at Amazon

This gold wants you to pay attention to it. It has a matte finish, but still oozes class and sophistication and does a great job at disguising the fact that you have a high-tech doorbell.

$15 at Amazon

I have to question the marketing gurus at Ring on this name because it doesn’t do this faceplate justice. To me, it resembles more of a buff or beige color that should go nicely with many lighter painted homes or even those with a brick facade.

This is a beautiful light blue color that does remind me of winter ice chewing gum. I appreciate how it helps to add some color in a way that isn’t too loud or in your face.

$15 at Amazon

I suppose burgundy sounds more fancy than pink, but this color is straight-up Mary Kay or rose blush pink. Before you macho types scoff, just picture how nice this would look up against a lighter brick color? Not bad, right?

$15 at Amazon

If you look past this faceplate too quickly, you’d be forgiven if you thought it was an off-white or light gray. This is an example where I feel Ring got the name just right!

$15 at Amazon

This doorbell would fit in nicely in my neighborhood, where I’ve started to see more and more homes with brownish and greenish paint jobs. I also picture it as the perfect faceplate for a woodsy cabin or bed and breakfast getaway.

$15 at Amazon

If you own an art deco home in Miami or a beach resort getaway, this is just the faceplate to make sure your front door matches the feel of your vacation home. The turquoise green perfectly captures the spirit of the sea!

$15 at Amazon

I’m struggling to find the right scenario to put a neon purple faceplate on your doorbell, but you may have a better imagination than I do. Despite potentially clashing with classic decor, this is a pretty color that is sure to make your home stand out from the others!

$15 at Amazon

Fire Cracker is a fantastic name for this color, as it will definitely make your front door pop! I see this going great with homes that feature adobe, stucco, or Spanish tile influences.

So which faceplate should you buy?

Home decor and design are personal, and tastes can vary wildly from person to person, neighbor to neighbor. Some folks may live in neighborhoods with strict building codes, while others may have a bit more freedom to express themselves through their homes. If and when I upgrade from my Ring Video Doorbell 2 to the newer Ring Video Doorbell 3 or 3 Plus, I would lean towards the Blue Metal faceplate. I like the subtle blue tones, plus in certain lights, it has a dark gray coloring that would go nicely with the trim on my home.

If you’re a bit more of a traditionalist, don’t worry — Ring has you covered. You can opt for something like the Galaxy Black or Silver Metal, or go for a classic look like one of the gold options. Of course, if you’re more adventurous, why not have some fun with the Bright Turquoise or Fire Cracker variants?

Whatever your preferences, it’s likely that Ring has a color to make you happy. The great news is these are all very affordable, and are easy to pop on both the Ring Video Doorbell 3 or the Ring Video Doorbell 3 Plus!
