If all goes as planned—a big if given Tesla’s history—the company will start producing the highly-anticipated Cybertruck in late 2021. Somewhere down the line, it’s likely we’ll also see a smaller version of the electric pickup, according to a recent tweet from CEO Elon Musk.
Responding to a question about the possibility of a smaller truck for Europe, Musk said a smaller Tesla Cybertruck is “highly likely down the road.” The tweet echoes Musk’s comments in May, when he tweeted that the Cybertruck will remain about the same size as the concept and a smaller “world truck” will probably follow.
Stretching around 230 inches in length, the Cybertruck we know and love is roughly as long as a Ford F-150 crew cab short bed. It is notably bigger than the Rivian R1T, with more than a foot in length over its rival. The Tesla has a much longer wheelbase as well as a larger bed.
The upcoming Cybertruck will be available in single-, dual-, and tri-motor configurations. Range will vary from around 250 miles to 500 miles, depending on the battery chosen. In the robust tri-motor guise, the Cybertruck will be able to tow more than 14,000 pounds. Inside, the cabin can fit up to six people.
It’s unclear when we’ll see the smaller Cybertruck, and whether or not it will have the same capabilities as the larger truck, but we’re glad to know it’s on Tesla’s radar. Also headed our way in the near future is the Tesla Semi, which is currently expected to begin deliveries in 2021. The lightning-quick Tesla Roadster will supposedly arrive within the next few years, too, boasting a claimed 1.9-second 0-60 time and a range of 620 miles.
