The 2021 Ford Bronco easily was one of the most anticipated debuts of 2020, and now that the internet has had a few weeks to pore over and digest the reborn SUV’s myriad details, things have gone relatively quiet on the Bronco news front. But just when you thought the hype was starting to die down, Ford conspicuously rolls through the famed Rubicon trail driving a team of new Bronco prototypes to stir things up again. You know, the trail Jeep names its hardest-core Wrangler trim level after?
The massive test group was spotted on the Rubicon over the weekend by dozens of off-road enthusiasts also attempting the trail, who subsequently posted their photos on the Bronco 6G forums. A number of different Bronco variants can be seen, including both two- and four-doors and hard- and soft-tops. Many of the Bronco testers appear to be equipped with the Sasquatch package, which comes with 35-inch mud-terrain tires wrapped around beadlock-capable wheels, a suspension lift, and locking front and rear differentials. The group, which was so large that supplies had to be helicoptered in, apparently also brought a JL Jeep Wrangler Rubicon along, likely for benchmarking.
But the best part about this planned spy shot opportunity is that we get to see the new 2021 Ford Bronco doing some real four-wheeling, traversing boulder-strewn ravines and climbing out of deep, sandy rutts. It helps demonstrate how capable this new Bronco is, and further whets our appetite for the inevitable Wrangler vs. Bronco comparison test we’ll conduct to evaluate those same capabilities. And all Ford had to do to get this extra publicity was fly some Broncos in to one of the world’s most well-known off-road destinations on a busy weekend and let fans’ photos and videos speak for themselves.
