Best answer: Yes, Sony has confirmed that the PS5 will be backward compatible with the PlayStation VR (PSVR) headset. Your headset, games and accessories will carry over into the next generation.

PSVR on PS5 Can I use my PSVR on PS5?

Yes. While Sony is almost certainly working on a newer version of the PSVR headset, it won’t be ready to launch alongside the PS5. As such, the company has confirmed that the current PSVR headset will be compatible with the PS5.

For an idea of what tech might go into the next PlayStation VR headset (or PSVR2) then you can check out this patent here, as well as some concepts that Sony has previously talked about. While these improvements appear enticing, it could be some time before we see it materialize into the next available headset.

PSVR on PS5 What about my PSVR games on PS5?

Your PSVR games will also be compatible with PS5, as Sony has confirmed that the PS5 is backward compatible with the PS4. PS4 games include PSVR titles, so your collection will carry over.

The PS5 will come with a new controller, called the DualSense. While it’s similar to the DualShock 4, there are a few differences (beyond the stark design change). For example, the light bar is smaller. Therefore, we don’t know yet if the DualSense will be compatible with PSVR games. Sony has confirmed, however, that you’ll be able to use the DualShock 4 on your PS5 with PS4 games, including PSVR titles.

PSVR on PS5 Will PSVR accessories work with the PS5?

PlayStation has confirmed that your PSVR accessories, such as the Move and Aim controllers, will be compatible with PS5. The PlayStation Camera will also work on PS5 but will require an adapter. This adapter will be free for PSVR owners, with Sony stating more information will come later on how to get this adapter. There’s also a new PlayStation Camera being developed as part of the PS5 accessories lineup.

The PS5 isn’t available for preorder just yet, but a few retailers are letting fans sign up for notifications, so they don’t miss out. PS5 games should be able to support ray tracing and have more realistic lighting effects than ever before.
