Google Pixel Watch’s latest update should fix those annoying notification delays

April 8, 2025

Summary

  • The Pixel Watch’s April 2025 update should fix bugs such as delayed notifications and syncing issues with Fitbit.
  • It does not bump the security patch to April 2025.
  • Google is bringing the Pixel 9’s Scam Detection feature to the Pixel Watch 2/3 in the US to detect potential scammers during phone calls.

The March 2025 update for the Pixel Watch introduced several new features and enhancements, including bumping the OS to Wear OS 5.1. But it also turned out to be pretty buggy, with users complaining of delayed notifications, syncing problems with the Fitbit app, and more. Google quickly acknowledged the problem and confirmed it would address it as soon as possible. Now, the company is rolling out the April 2025 update for the Pixel Watch to presumably fix all the reported issues.

Plenty of room for improvement

Given the slight variation in build numbers — BP1A.250305.019.W3 vs. BP1A.250305.019.W7 — the update likely includes only minor bug fixes and little else. It does not even bump the security patch to April 2025, with your Pixel Watch remaining on the March 2025 patch.

Google has not published official release notes for the Pixel Watch’s latest update. But it should hopefully address all the problems that the March 2025 build introduced.

You can download the Pixel Watch’s latest update right away by navigating to Settings > System > System updates and repeatedly tapping the “Your watch is up to date” screen.

Scam Detection comes to the Pixel Watch

In a separate post on the Google support forums, Google announced it is bringing in-call Scam Detection to the Pixel Watch. The feature went live on the Pixels with the March 2025 Feature Drop and uses AI to detect and safeguard you from scams while on a call. With Scam Detection coming to the Pixel Watch, you won’t need to pull out your Pixel phone to find out if you’re speaking to a scammer.

You’ll hear a beep at the start of the call and periodically throughout. If Google detects you’re speaking with a potential scammer, your watch will notify you with a sound, vibration, and on-screen alert.

Scam Detection is available on the Pixel Watch 2/3 in the US when paired with a Pixel 9. The feature also only works over Bluetooth, as it is the paired Pixel phone that does the heavy lifting for scam detection and then sends a notification to the watch. So, if you directly take a call over LTE on your Pixel Watch, Scam Detection won’t work.
