Samsung’s Weather app could get an animated glow-up in One UI 8

Summary

  • The alleged Weather app from Samsung’s One UI 8 skin has leaked online.
  • It features snazzy new full-screen animations.
  • Samsung might make such small visual enhancements across other system apps in One UI 8.

Early One UI 8 leaks suggest that Samsung will not make significant changes to the Android 16 flavor of its skin. Instead, the company might focus on getting the update out as early as possible to make up for the delay in rolling out One UI 7. A new One UI 8 leak now suggests that at least one Samsung app will receive a nice makeover.

Home Up is the star of the show

Typically, Android manufacturers love to use slick animations in their skin’s Weather app. Samsung may employ a similar trick with the Weather app in One UI 8. A hands-on video of an early One UI 8 Weather app build showcases fresh, full-screen animations that more accurately reflect real-time weather conditions.

The overall interface is similar to the Weather app in One UI 7, but the new animations add a touch of spice. Weather apps thrive on eye-catching animations, and it appears that Samsung will embrace this approach with One UI 8.

For comparison, the One UI 7 Weather app features 2D animations and does not look as catchy.

There only seem to be a couple of animations in the current build of the Weather app. This is understandable considering One UI 8 is still under development and a few months away from release. With Android 16 stable set to release in June, Samsung is likely to officially unveil its next Android skin with the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 in July.

Samsung might want to focus on getting One UI 8 out early

With One UI 8 unlikely to introduce major changes, Samsung may adopt a similar strategy across other system apps, focusing on slick new animations and subtle visual tweaks.

You can sideload the One UI 8 Weather app on your Galaxy phone running One UI 7 by downloading the APK from here. If the app keeps crashing, try adding a weather widget to your home screen and accessing the main app through it. On older Galaxy devices, such as the S21 and S22 series, the app and animations may not work smoothly. This could be due to a combination of their aging internals and Samsung’s lack of optimizations.
