Samsung may fast-track Galaxy Z Fold 7’s launch to early July

Summary

  • Samsung may launch the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 in early July.
  • The company could hold the Unpacked event in New York.
  • Rumors suggest Galaxy Z Fold 7 could feature a slimmer profile and a larger display.

With the launch of the Galaxy S25 series and the troubled rollout of One UI 7 behind it, Samsung is now likely focusing on the release of its next major devices: the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7. Over the past few years, the company has gradually shifted its foldables launch timeline, releasing them slightly earlier each time. It may continue the trend this year as well, with the 2025 Galaxy Z Fold and Flip reportedly debuting in early July.

Not even a year old and still impressive

A report from The JoongAng claims Samsung will hold an Unpacked event in New York in early July to unveil the Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 (via @Jukanlosreve). The company last held an Unpacked event in New York in 2022, where it unveiled the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Flip 4. For comparison, it held the Unpacked event for the Galaxy S25 in San Jose, California, while the launch event for the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Flip 6 took place in Paris, France, on July 10th last year.

Considering that July 4th is a significant holiday in the US, Samsung may hold the Z Fold 7’s Unpacked event on July 7th, just three days earlier than last year. Or it could push the timeline even further, unveiling the phones on July 1st or 2nd, ahead of the US Independence Day.

Galaxy Z Fold 7 will pack bigger upgrades than its predecessor

The Galaxy Z Fold 6 was an iterative upgrade over the Fold 5, packing faster internals and a slightly wider display. Leaks indicate this won’t be the case with the Z Fold 7 this year. Samsung won’t radically redesign its flagship foldable, but it will make more changes than it has in the last few generations.

Supposedly, the Fold 7 could be the slimmest Galaxy foldable yet, with a thickness of less than 10mm when folded. It will also grow in size, packing a larger 8-inch folding screen.

Rumors indicate Samsung could use the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s primary 200MP camera on the Z Fold 7. It may even upgrade the resolution of the under-display camera for better sharpness and detail. However, it is still too early to confirm these rumors, especially until a more authoritative source backs them.
