Switch 2 Joy-Con HD Rumble Won’t Be As Noisy As Original Switch

With the Switch 2, Nintendo has made marked improvements to nearly every aspect of the hardware over the original Switch. That appears to also include the amount of noise emitted by the Joy-Cons’ HD rumble.

As mentioned on Nintendo’s official backwards compatible games page, the HD rumble feature will be much quieter on the Joy-Con 2 controllers. “The volume of the Joy-Con 2 controllers’ force feedback vibrations has been reduced compared to the Nintendo Switch Joy-Con controllers,” Nintendo says.

While this is an all-around improvement over the original Joy-Cons, which could get quite noisy while rumbling, it may cause an issue with one particular minigame in Everybody 1-2-Switch. Because of the reduced volume, “it may be more difficult to find hidden Joy-Con 2 in the minigame Joy-Con Hide & Seek,” Nintendo says.

The size of the Joy-Con 2 controllers will also render them unusable with a handful of other games, such as Ring Fit Adventure and the various Nintendo Labo kits. Beyond that, however, the vast majority of Switch games will be backwards compatible with the Switch 2.

The Switch 2 launches on June 5. The system itself retails for $450, while the Mario Kart World bundle (which will only be in production through Fall 2025) costs $500. Preorders for both are currently sold out, but Switch 2 accessories and games are still in stock at retailers.

Ahead of Switch 2’s launch, Nintendo recently released a big system update for the original Switch. Among other things, the update added Virtual Game Cards, GameShare support, and a system transfer function for Switch 2.
