- LG has launched transparent OLED screens in subway train windows.

Transparent screens are one of the coolest things we’ve seen yet, with the likes of LG and Xiaomi demonstrating or launching transparent TVs in recent times. Now, LG Display has announced that its going one step further and bringing transparent OLED screens to subway train windows.
LG confirmed in an emailed press release that its first transparent OLED screens will be available on subway trains in Beijing and Shenzhen.
These 55-inch panels aren’t just for show either, as they can actually display useful information too. LG Display says they offer real-time train schedules/transfers as well as updates on the weather, news, and flights.
The company confirmed that it plans to expand the supply of these transparent OLED screens to major subway stations, although it didn’t divulge any specific details (e.g. cities and countries) in this regard.
Nevertheless, the company also envisions transparent screens being used for the likes of self-driving cars, airplanes, and smart home or smart building industries. The applications are easy to understand for the automotive industry in particular, allowing drivers to glean information without taking their eyes off the road.
These types of screens could potentially make for a less disruptive design compared to standard information screens too, as they can be easily affixed to windows rather than being standalone booths or being built into a wall.
There’s no word on when we could see consumers buying these transparent screens though, as it would be pretty cool to slap this on a window in your home office. What do you make of this tech though? Let us know in the comments!
