“What are they doing”

Selling you an Ultimate version of a game, with a next gen upgrade as a perk.
This whole generation, nobody was buying PS4/Xbox One games expecting also a next gen version as well.
The next gen consoles get announced, a small handful of developers say they’ll offer free upgrades (to games coming near the console’s release window) and now everyone feels they’re entitled to things.

Happily bought up remasters the last 2 generations, but now you demand it’s free. You bought a PS4/Xbox One game, and they gave you a PS4/Xbox One game. The original game will be playable, possibly in even a better form, on both next gen consoles.

If you want the updated version, buy the updated version. Just like we have for as long as gaming has been around. I think it’s cool when devs actually offer it for free, but that seems to be larger, more financially successful entities thus far. I think offering it is cool, but it is by no means owed to any previous customer.
