The Grok 3.5 launch is imminent, according to references to the model spotted in some lines of code.

The latest version of Grok doesn’t have an official launch date, but that could be coming any day now since mention of Grok 3.5 has been showing up in xAI’s latest web build, according to TestingCatalog, which posted screenshots on X.

The AI news site also noticed a reference to an API, and said it might also be preparing a screen-sharing feature for Grok’s voice mode on iOS. This would be similar to OpenAI’s voice mode with ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini Live features.

In late April, xAI founder Elon Musk posted that an early beta release of Grok 3.5 would be available to SuperGrok subscribers, starting the countdown for a wider release. More recently, Musk commented on an X post about Grok 3.5, saying it would excel at “reasoning from first principles (truth),” suggesting the new version will have stronger reasoning capabilities.

The model as touted as an “unfiltered” model compared to others that have more safety guardrails. Recently, that backfired with a bug that kept mentioning “white genocide” in South Africa” in response to completely unrelated queries.

The current model, Grok 3, is comparable to rivals with image generation, research, and everyday use, but Grok 3.5 could be a step-up in coding abilities, where it currently lags behind models like Gemini and Claude, according to Bleeping Computer.

Keep an eye out for a Grok 3.5, which could be ship in the near future. When it does, we’ll know how Musk’s latest model stacks up to its rivals.
