This could be our first look at the Sony Xperia 5 II

  • A render of the Sony Xperia 5 II has leaked online.
  • It shows a phone that seems mostly identical to the Xperia 5.

The Sony Xperia 1 II might be the firm’s best flagship phone in years, building on the Xperia 1 with sensible upgrades across the board. Thankfully, it looks like the Xperia 5 could receive this same treatment too.

Veteran leaker Evan Blass has posted a render of the apparent Sony Xperia 5 II on his Patreon account, showing a phone that seems extremely similar to the Xperia 5 released last year. Check out the picture below.

The image shows a phone with triple rear cameras once again as well as what appears to be a 21:9 screen with a bezel up top. One noteworthy change can be seen on the right edge of the screen though, as we’ve got a volume rocker, a fingerprint scanner, and two extra buttons near the bottom of the phone.

Sony’s Xperia 5 featured a volume rocker, a fingerprint scanner, a separate power button, and a camera shutter key (see the image at the top of the article). It looks like the fingerprint scanner doubles as a power button on the new phone, while one of the extra buttons is likely a camera shutter key. But what about the other button? It’s way too far down the phone for our liking for to be a power button, although I wouldn’t put it past Sony to do this. Hopefully it’s a remappable shortcut key or another camera-related key instead.

We don’t have any other details related to the Sony Xperia 5 II, but its predecessor was smaller than the Xperia 1. So it’s entirely possible that this model is smaller than the Xperia 1 II as well. Sony also brought the 3.5mm port back on its early 2020 flagship, so we’d expect the Japanese firm to do the same for the upcoming device.
