As we’ve noted in previous reviews, the Flying Spur is the best Bentley sedan of the modern era thanks to its sumptuous interior and effortless acceleration. Now, a carbon fiber package promises to give the sedan even more road presence.
The updates are subtle, but likely won’t go unnoticed by discerning Bentley customers. The Styling Specification adds carbon fiber accents to the Flying Spur’s front splitter, side sills, rear diffuser, and rear spoiler. Bentley has performed a battery of tests to make sure the carbon fiber bits don’t disturb the sedan’s performance. The parts were also tested for durability to withstand curb strikes, wading, and poor roads.
Bentley even paid close attention to the badging, giving the side sills a special three-dimensional electroformed emblem. Electroforming involves depositing metal onto an object through an electrochemical cell, discarding the object, and letting the metal formation remain as the final product. The Bentley badge is carefully placed on the side sills, and a special lacquer overcoat is applied so that no air bubbles form in the overcoat.
The Bentley Flying Spur packs a forced-induction 6.0-liter 12-cylinder engine that produces 626 hp and 664 lb-ft of torque, both of which help the sedan achieve a top speed of 207 mph. A less potent, but still formidable, V-8 version is on the way.
Along with the Flying Spur, the Styling Specification is also available on the Bentley Continental GT coupe and convertible and Bentayga crossover SUV. Bentley offers a host of other “Specifications,” too, including the Touring Specification, Mood Lighting Specification, Smoker’s Specification, and Diamond Knurling Specification.
