Android 16 QPR1 Beta 3 is all about refinements and fixes

July 18, 2025

Google has seeded the third Android 16 QPR1 beta to Pixel users on the beta channel. While the second beta introduced a desktop mode with app windowing capabilities, the third beta is relatively light on changes. Instead, Google seems to have focused on squashing some major bugs.

Android 16 QPR1 Beta 2 dropped in early June, so the third beta lands after a while. Google did push out a minor Beta 2.1 update in late June, which fixed the broken back button and not much else.

With Android 16 QPR1 public release set to drop in September, it makes sense that Google is now focusing on squashing the remaining bugs and adding the final polishing touches. The company’s release notes outline the notable changes in the build.

You can install the OTA on your Pixel by heading to Settings → System → Software updates → System update → Check for updates.

Android 16 QPR1 will miss out on new Canary buld features

Early Reddit reports suggest that the latest QPR beta does not include any of the Android Canary features, such as 90:10 split-screen multitasking, parental control, or enhanced screen savers.

Google is likely reserving these features for the next major Android release later this year or in 2026. Still, there’s plenty to look forward to in Android 16 QPR1, including Material 3 Expressive, full implementation of Live updates, revamped Quick Settings panel, and more.
