The new Google Photos editor redesign is now rolling out widely

Google is set to introduce several changes to the Android UI soon. The company’s new Material 3 Expressive design language is expected to debut with the Pixel 10 series launch next month. Ahead of that, Google has been updating its apps to match the new design language.

We’ve already seen Google Keep adopt the updated UI, and now it looks like the Google Photos Editor is receiving the new interface as well.

But don’t hold your breath just yet

Google first announced the redesigned Editor UI for Google Photos back in May 2025. To celebrate Google Photos’ 10th anniversary, the company revealed a revamped editor screen aimed at making editing easier for users. It also opened up several Pixel 9-exclusive AI editing tools, like Reimagine and Auto Frame, to more Android devices.

Earlier this month, however, Google announced that it was taking a cautious approach with the rollout to ensure the changes “work well” before reaching more users. It now appears that the wider rollout is finally underway.

The new Google Photos editor layout is finally going mainstream

Multiple Reddit users are reporting that the new Editor UI is now live in their app. The redesign introduces a more streamlined interface, with editing tools grouped into clearer categories such as Auto, Actions, Markup, and others. A new search tool in the Editor screen also allows users to find tools quickly without having to navigate through multiple sections.

The update seems to be rolling out more broadly now, as several users are reporting its arrival. I personally haven’t received the new Editor UI on my Pixel 9, even with the latest app version, but it seems this is a server-side rollout that will reach more devices over time.

Google has not yet made an official announcement regarding the broader rollout, but if we hear anything, we’ll be sure to keep you updated.
