Multiple leaks have now all but confirmed that Google will launch a new pair of budget wireless earbuds — the Pixel Buds 2a — at its Made by Google event on August 20. Detailed specs sheet and renders of the earbuds have already made their way to the internet, but the leaks keep coming, and you can now feast your eyes on even more Pixel Buds 2a renders.
WinFuture has posted detailed renders of the Pixel Buds 2a and highlighted the earbuds’ simpler design compared to the more expensive Pixel Buds Pro 2.
As part of this redesign, Google has relocated the proximity sensor and opted to print the ‘G’ logo on the earbuds instead of engraving it, as on the more expensive sibling. Even the grille housing the external microphone gets a makeover, likely to reduce complexity.
While Google’s new budget earbuds will supposedly feature active noise cancellation, they will miss out on Silent Seal 2.0. So, don’t expect passive noise blocking to be as effective. On the bright side, the earbuds will support spatial audio.
Battery life will supposedly be worse than the Buds Pro 2, with a runtime of 7 hours, which the charging case will boost to 20 hours. Unsurprisingly, the budget earbuds will also miss out on Conversation Detection and wireless charging. Both are nice-to-have features, but unless you are a power user, you might not be bothered by their absence.
In the US, Google’s new earbuds will seemingly cost $99, while they will retail for 149 Euros in Europe.
Google may or may not offer the Pixel Buds 2a in four colors
Google will purportedly offer the Pixel Buds 2a in Gray and Iris colors, though another leak claims the earbuds will debut in four shades, including Hazel and Strawberry.
The Pixel Buds 2a will succeed the Pixel Buds A-Series, which debuted back in June 2021. While the A-Series was impressive for its time, they are now showing their age, especially as rival budget earbuds now offer more features, better battery life, and improved sound quality. The 2a should close that gap by delivering a fresher design and updated hardware with more features at the same price point.
