The video game rumor mill is starting to heat up again as we leave Gamescom behind and approach Tokyo Game Show next month. Several credible leakers are now saying that a new entry in Xbox’s long-running Forza Horizon series will be announced next month.
If true, its reveal would line up with Tokyo Game Show, a video game industry expo held every year in Japan. It’s likely being revealed there because the rumors claim that Forza Horizon 6 will be set in Japan.
What has leaked about Forza Horizon 6?
Playground Games’ open-world racer returns
Rumors about Forza Horizon 6 took center stage over the weekend, following a report from Windows Central. That outlet, which has reliably leaked Xbox-related news in the past, claimed to have seen internal documentation confirming that Forza Horizon 6 is set to be announced at Tokyo Game Show 2025.
This report was then corroborated by leaker NateTheHate on X, who also affirmed that the game is set in Japan and that there has been no word of a Nintendo Switch 2 port of the game. Finally, Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson backed up the fact that documents about Forza Horizon 6 have been circulating around game industry insider circles recently.
Although these leaks should still all be taken with a grain of salt, the fact that multiple credible leakers are claiming this information is accurate suggests that there is truth to this rumor. And while Microsoft has not commented on these rumors, it has confirmed that a new game in the Forza franchise is in the works.
At the end of 2025’s Xbox Games Showcase in June, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer teased that a new Forza game would launch sometime in 2026. That said, the layoffs at Xbox in July heavily impacted Forza Motorsport studio Turn 10, so it seemed unlikely that a new game would be imminent from that studio.
That’s why it makes sense for the game coming next year to be a Forza Horizon title, as those are primarily developed by Playground Games, with Turn 10 in a support role. While Forza Motorsport games are more simulation-like racers, the Forza Horizon franchise is made up of more arcade-inspired open-world racing games.
The last Forza Horizon game was released in 2021, but it has seen a steady stream of live service updates since and is available on Xbox Game Pass. It came to PS5 earlier this year and has been quite successful on that platform.
If Forza Horizon 6 does materialize, it will make 2026 a busy year for Playground Games, which is also developing the long-awaited reboot of Fable.
