Stephen Colbert reacts to the viral rumors of Trump’s death

Stephen Colbert was welcomed back to work on Tuesday by a viral rumor that Trump had died, supported by a lack of sightings of the president over and before Labor Day Weekend and some strange footage of someone dropping garbage bags out of an upper window of the White House.

The official explanation for the latter? “Regular maintenance,” which prompted an eyebrow raise from Colbert.

“‘I guess it’s plausible, maybe they’re doing renovations or something like that,’ is what I thought until Trump was asked about it a press conference today. Here’s what he said about the video of garbage bags clearly being dropped out of a window,” says Colbert in the clip above, before playing footage of Trump saying the video is “probably AI”, before going on to add: “If something happens really bad, just blame AI.”

“You just blamed AI!” says an outraged Colbert. “You just blamed AI! Which means something really bad happened? Are you dead?! Were you in those bags?! Are you AI?! Please tell me you’re AI!”
