Valheim Is Finally Coming To PlayStation In 2026

Valheim will launch on PlayStation consoles in 2026, developer Iron Gate has announced, five years after it launched in early access on Steam and three years after its arrival on Xbox.

Exactly when in 2026 Valheim will arrive on Sony’s consoles remains to be seen and was not announced, but in a press release, Iron Gate co-founder Henrik Törnqvist said the studio is thrilled to bring Valheim to more players.

“Bringing both new and longtime players to a new platform allows even more people to explore the world we’ve worked so hard to build, and we can’t wait to hear their stories as they’re able to dive into their Viking adventures,” Törnqvist said.

Iron Gate’s hit survival game sold more than 1 million copies in its first week on Steam, and has since sold more than 12 million total. It currently features cross-play between Xbox and PC and is an Xbox “Play Anywhere” title, meaning purchasing Valheim on Xbox consoles or on PC via the Microsoft Store also grants access to the game on both platforms. It’s currently unclear if Valheim on PlayStation will support cross-play between all platforms.

Valheim is still in early access, having received a number of substantial updates in the last four years, including new biomes like the Mistlands and the Ashlands. Its most recent Call To Arms update brought major changes to the game’s combat system and a new type of equippable items in the form of trinkets. It additionally introduced new enemies, weapons, armor sets, building pieces, character creation options, and more. Yet another biome, the Deep North, is still in development.

In Valheim’s Steam early access FAQ, Iron Gate states it won’t consider Valheim ready to leave early access until the Deep North is complete, and that the price of the game could increase over the course of early access.

For those wondering if Valheim is worth the hype, it’s one of GameSpot’s best indie games to play in 2025, as well as one of the top 20 most popular Steam games of all time by concurrent players.
