YouTube is working normally now
After a quick hiccup, it’s all back to normal. YouTube chimed in on X to share the details.
YouTube is the largest streaming platform, with millions of hours of content. So it’s safe to say that keeping it all running smoothly is a massive operation for the company. We just saw a huge revamp of the platform and now a day later, it’s experiencing a big problem, with reports that videos are failing to load, along with some other strange behavior.
As you can imagine, this is a pretty big deal, considering that you don’t usually open YouTube and see it struggling. At least, that’s been my experience over the past decade or so using it. But right now, some users are dealing with videos that won’t play smoothly, with playback that will start, but immediately begin to stutter.
This is a pretty big deal
In some of the worst instances, the video won’t even begin to play when selected, showing a message that “something went wrong.” So if you’ve been trying to relax and watch some content, but haven’t been able to because of these same issues, you’re not alone. We don’t yet know how widespread the problem is, but some members of our team are experiencing it, while others aren’t.
And to make things even more complicated, this is something that’s not consistent among those affected, with the problem being seen when watching videos in a browser, but it’s not appearing in the app. Downdetector is also seeing a high spike right now, with users reporting problems with the platform.
In addition to YouTube, YouTube Music is also seeing a problem of its own, with album downloads currently failing. Again, this could be unrelated, but it’s something worth pointing out since it’s most likely all hosted on the same platform. Personally, I have not seen the YouTube video playback issue on my devices, but I have noticed problems with YouTube Music downloads failing to initialize.
This is most likely something that will resolve on its own. But we’ve reached out to YouTube to see if they can provide any insight on the events happening right now. We’ll be sure to update when we hear back.
