Samsung is no stranger to the world of accessories. Just in the realm of smartphones and tablets, the South Korean tech giant manufactures and sells countless cases, films, wireless chargers, powerbanks, adapters, cables, and more.
Samsung refreshes these from time to time, and just recently, the tech giant quietly added two new wireless chargers to the mix that are equal parts progressive and out of touch.
Samsung’s online US store has a new ‘Single Wireless Charger‘ ($35), and a ‘Car Wireless Charger‘ ($85), via 9to5Google, both of which promise to charge your device with Qi2.0 tech. The funny thing, however, is that none of Samsung’s own devices currently offer native, built-in Qi2 magnetic charging.
An expensive joke, at least for now
Following in the footsteps of Apple’s MagSafe functionality, Google finally added real magnets to its latest Pixel 10 series, allowing proper alignment of charging coils and ensuring that the device is held in place without the need of separate cases. Samsung’s devices, meanwhile, still require the add-on.
This reliance could change with the South Korean tech giant’s upcoming flagship S26 series, but until then, the company’s new wireless chargers will continue to feel like an expensive joke that need an additional case just to be useful.
Well, at lest Samsung is being open about the limitation. In multiple places throughout the product listings, footnotes clearly state the magnetic case reliance.
Requires Qi-compatible device, Qi2.0-certified magnetic case required for phone, and 25W power adapter (sold separately). Fast Wireless Charging requires Fast Charging compatible device; depends on battery level and other factors.
Beyond the case, buyers of the wireless charger would also need to spend extra on a 25W power adapter, though in today’s world, most already have a drawer full of unused bricks lying around, so that should be less of a concern.
For now, the tech giant’s new wireless chargers remain a piece of tech that’s perfect for a Galaxy phone that’s yet to be released.
