When the Kickstarter was announced, obviously, I grew up with Wing Commander, so it’s obvious that I’d keep an eye on this.
Last time I checked, a gaming website’s job is to report on games, although many seem to have steered off course to focus only on drama, rumors, and silly crap like that. Star Citizen is a game, and a hell of a relevant one for those who care about sci-fi and Wing-Commander-style games. Hence, yes, I’ll report about it anywhere I work. I’ll argue that gaming journalists who scoff at it and don’t cover it aren’t doing their job properly.
You may say “without releasing a game,” but what they have playable right now is bigger and arguably more fun than many “released” games out there, especially nowadays, after they have pushed for polish and content in the last several months. Personally, I have a ton more fun playing Star Citizen than any modern Call of Duty or the like.
It also does things no other game does, which is a nice added bonus.
Why do you think they have made almost as much in 2025 as they have made in 2024 and 2023 (their record year), with 2.5 months and the biggest event of the year to go?
Perhaps it’s time that ya’ll realize that Star Citizen players don’t keep funding the game because they’re crazy. They fund it because with all the highs and lows, and the issues, it’s *already* fun, and every year that passes, it shifts more from a pipe dream to something that looks like it’ll be achieved and will be good.
A lot of crow will be eaten over this game, and it won’t be the fans to do the eating. Mark my words.
