The Samsung Galaxy XR features a 4K Micro-OLED display and a lightweight design. It feels balanced on the head, with optional prescription lenses available if needed. It’s powered by a Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 chipset and 16GB of RAM. It includes 256GB of on-board storage. Google’s Android XR operating system gets its debut, with an updated Google Maps and other optimized apps.

There were plenty of rumors about the price of Samsung’s Galaxy XR headset well before its launch, but the brand managed to smash expectations, delivering a price that’s fair and also well below its top competitor, the Apple Vision Pro. And despite its $1,800 price tag, it’s still going to be a tough sell and uphill battle, but Samsung is trying to make it even easier to pick up by offering close to $1,000 in perks so you can enjoy the hardware right out of the gate.

A huge investment

We won’t put it lightly — the Galaxy XR headset is a huge investment. It isn’t something that you just go to pick up, despite being the price of Samsung’s best foldable phone. This device is unique and built with a specific purpose. You won’t be carrying it around with you every day, and the platform, Android XR, has just launched, which means it won’t be as fleshed out as the Google Play Store.

This is a product that’s going to need to mature, and will most likely take years for that to happen. As far as the hardware, Samsung seems to have gotten that part down. So it’s really going to be all about whether this device fulfills your needs. This is where all the current freebies come in, giving users a chance to experience everything the Galaxy XR has to offer without spending anymore out of pocket.

Perhaps the heavy hitters of this package are the subscriptions to YouTube Premium, NBA League Pass, and Google Play Pass. You get a full year of these services, which should allow you to explore the capabilities of the headset in full. Samsung also provides full year subscriptions to Calms Premium, Project Pulsar, and Google AI Pro.

Samsung also throws in a steep discount for three months to YouTube TV that will cost just $1/month. It also includes access to two games: NFL Pro Era and Asteroid. For the most part, this is a great package for the Galaxy XR, giving users an easy and pain-free way to explore XR content. And while we hope that Samsung and Google will introduce more captivating reasons to have a $1,800 headset in your home, this bundle from Samsung is going to be the best that it can do for now.
